Is South Padre Island good for fishing?
Deep sea fishing SPI is some of the best in Texas thanks to its proximity to deep water and productive structure. Speckled trout and black drum are also some of the best inshore fish to catch in South Padre Island. These fish can also be found alongside redfish but are often outshined in appearance or size.
What kind of fish do you catch on South Padre Island?
Trout, redfish and puppy black drum are good. Best action is in the South Bay small channels, and the Old Causeway. Redfish are schooling in the intracoastal at Three Islands, with black drum and trout mixed in. Red snapper are good on the artificial reefs.
Do you need a fishing license to fish in South Padre Island?
Licenses. A valid Texas fishing license package (license and endorsement) is required to fish in the park although exceptions may apply, and fees vary. Children under 17 years of age do not require a license.
